Skyrim Script Extender, commonly referred to by the abbreviation SKSE, extends the scripting capabilities of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition and is the extended library. Some mods require SKSE in order to work properly.
Features[]
After SKSE is installed, Skyrim must be launched through skse_loader.exe instead of "TESV.exe": otherwise, the SKSE will simply not load and mods that depend on SKSE will not function properly. Wrye Bash and Nexus Mod Manager have a useful function for launching Skyrim via SKSE: alternatively, the default shortcut can be removed or stored elsewhere and a new shortcut created for the skse_loader.exe file.
Compatibility[]
- SKSE is compatible with BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting Software) and LOOT (Load Order Optimisation Tool). BOSS can show some versions of SKSE plug-ins.
- Since April 22, 2013, Script Dragon and its plugins are able to be used in combination with SKSE and SKSE plugins.
Trivia[]
- SKSE's developers also have developed Oblivion Script Extender
