A mod is the abbreviated name for "modification", and describes any alterations made to a game. Mods are typically created by fans and players of the series to either add or remove difficulty, enhance graphics, and various other reasons.

Mods are exclusive to PC users. Dismissing rumors of possible mods for console versions of Skyrim, Bethesda publicly stated that there were no plans to make mods for consoles.[1]
