As of now, only PC users can mod The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

WindowsEdit

Manual installationEdit

  1. Find the mod you wish to install and download it
  2. Be sure to read the installation instructions: it's not always the same for every mod, and reading on beforehand is often easier than fixing problems afterwards
  3. Extract the files and copy them into your Skyrim > Data folder

Nexus Mod ManagerEdit

  1. Download and install Nexus Mod Manager, which can be found on the Skyrim Nexus. It will automatically find your Skyrim directory. Normally, the map it picks to install the mods in, should be alright and doesn't have to be changed.
  2. Either download a mod manually or download it via Nexus Mod Manager
  3. If downloaded through manager, the mod can be installed through manager as well
  4. If downloaded manually, select the add-mod button and select the archive of the mod you wish to install
  5. After the mod manager is finished building the mod, you can install it through the manager

Installation via Steam WorkshopEdit

  1. Find the mod you wish to install in the Steam Workshop and click the subscribe-button

LinuxEdit

Play On LinuxEdit

  1. Open the File Manager and navigate to Home directory
  2. Open the PlayOnLinux's Virtual Drives shortcut
  3. Open the virtual drive in which the Skyrim is installed (by default "Skyrim", unless the drive name was changed during the installation.
  4. Open drive_c folder
  5. The folders included will resemble Windows Home folder (Program Files, users, windows)
  6. Navigate to the installation folder (by default: ~Program Files>Bethesda Softworks
  7. If the content of the mod archive starts consists of "Data" folder extract the archive to the installation folder
  8. If the content of the mod archive includes any other folders (meshes, textures, Sound etc.) extract the archive to the Data folder

If you can't find the PlayOnLinux's Virtual Drives shortcut press Ctrl+H to show hidden folders. Navigate to .PlayOnLinux and open it, then open wineprefix folder. Proceed from point 3 of this tutorial.

WineEdit

Note that this form of installation is much more crude and more often than not contains minor and major bugs.

  1. Open the File Manager and navigate to Home directory
  2. Press Ctrl+H and navigate to .wine
  3. Open drive_c folder
  4. The folders included will resemble Windows Home folder (Program Files, users, windows)
  5. Navigate to the installation folder (by default: ~Program Files>Bethesda Softworks
  6. If the content of the mod archive starts consists of "Data" folder extract the archive to the installation folder
  7. If the content of the mod archive includes any other folders (meshes, textures, Sound etc.) extract the archive to the Data folder

Creation Kit is usually unavailable to Wine installation users. This means, that while mods can be installed, they can't be created.
