Walkthrough

This quest starts at the close of the quest Periphery. With the player at DeepCrag Ravine overhearing the conversation between Commander Drugo and the Imperial Officer of the post. The legion is leaving, with Skyrim in open rebellion they are needed there. Prince Damian is to give a speech in Arnima - so you head there to hear it.

Pathos For Perdition5

Enslaved Osimer toil.

After Damian's speech, the Priest of the Nine asks you to speak to him privately. Apparently the Missionary - Reamonn suffered a horrific vision while in the Prince's presence. He saw the Prince as a demon. Afterwards, you head to the Gavoudon Lowlands Penal Quarry. As you approach - you see a ghost of the Wayward Husk outside the quarry. After chatting with it, you may take this moment to look around at all the horrific machinations of the quarry: Enslaved Osimer are coerced to dig through the rock, in the Quarry Dugout is a locked room where the enslaved are forced to breed, and deep within is the torture chamber Den of Silent Sen.

You engage in dialogue with Prince Damian. He will deflect your questions and invite you to die with him, Predothor, and two nobles: Mengrelle & Josiah. Talking about the Prince's vision of the future, during which the Prince will ask your opinions, and you will have (3) opportunities to voice your dissent.

Make a save before sitting down to eat - incase you'd like to go back and change your decisions.

Pathos For Perdition4

The price of loyalty...

Staying Completely Loyal

You will be asked to slay the Orc diplomat Luthor and any who are with him. You will end up slaying: Luthor, Priest of the Nine, Oliver, Priestess (the one who set you on the initial quest: Beyond Reach), and an innocent Traveller. After reporting back to Prince Damian, you will be thanked and then - everything stays the same. And that's the point: I think...

Dissenting

You will have (3) opportunities to voice dissent during the long discussion. Voicing dissent at anytime triggers the next stage. The Prince will express his dismay and Predothor will invite you to the basement. Going down, you will come across a harem surrounding a fighting pit with dead Orcs. Predothor will call you over and push you into the pit and engage in battle.

Pathos For Perdition6

A Dagonite Overlord in the Deadlands.

After you cause Predothor significant damage he will transform into a Dremora and both of you will be transported to the Deadlands, which appears to be in Oblivion. Predothor will explain to the Dagonite Overlord that he has brought you as a Champion so that he may rejoin his master Mehrunes Dagon.

The player should note, that you may take any Daedric weapon from a rack behind the raised platform, may engage the magical holograms to receive health, stamina and magic rejuvenations, as well as absorb a Battle Prowess bonus from the hologram across the river with crossed weapons. After killing Predothor, the Dagonite Overlord will inform the player, that he will grant a Spell: Conjure Predothor - that will force Predothor to fight for you. Only if you sever Predothor's head and place it on the spike in front of the bowl on the raised platform. An Oblivion Gate will appear behind you - and you may leave this realm.

Pathos For Perdition7

Prince Damian, as the Wayward Ego.

You will be transported back to Nirn, in the fighting pit in the Last Axiom. Approaching the gate, an Ustase named Dog will come down and release the slip-bars.

Pathos Fo Perdition8

The fallen Griffon of Evermore.

Exiting the Last Axiom, head back into the Quarry and engage Prince Damian. The Griffon of Evermore will fly down to join the conversation. Killing Prince Damian, his soul will transform to that of the Wayward Ego - confirming the Wayward Husk's warnings. You will have slay the Ustase, Wayward Ego and the Griffon. Upon doing so - you will be transported back to the Scuttling Void.

Scuttling Void

Make a save here in case there is a glitch and you fall.

While talking to the Wayward Husk, selecting the chat option "Now What?" will trigger the next course of action. The Wayward Husk will say: "I will offer two paths; one where you will find where the rabbit hole ends and the other where you can retain some sense of normal at the surface". Turning to the hole overlooking the Scuttling Void (East) a door ought to appear out of nowhere upon approaching the hole - walk out to it (there is an invisible floor). You will see a door - and stepping aside, behind the door, a "Withered and Despaired Rabbit."

Confronting King Sigmayne

Opening the door, you are transported to the Great Griffon Palace in Evermore. Its a harem, and the children you had shepherded to the city are sex slaves. You will have the option of murdering or persuading the Orc Nanny to obtain the Palace Basement Key, (I was also able to steal it from her). Speak to the Child named Jathon who has an objective marker over his head. You are leading them out of here and to safety.

Hearing noises of a revolt you'll burst into the court chamber. King Sigmayne will confront you and demand that his guards and Kegor kill you for your "crimes" of rescuing the children and killing Prince Damian. At this point you may persuade Kegor to side with you or just mow him down in the wake of bloodshed to follow. You will have to persuade Kegor (3) times in order to gain the option for him to choose you over his King. Kegor will grab the children leaving you to kill the two royal guards, an Ustase and King Sigmayne. After that, the main door to the chamber will fill as if an Oblivion Gate. Go through it.

Pathos For Perdition9

Effigy of the Griffon of Evermore aflame.

Killing or convincing Kegor has no bearing on the rest of the game.

You will be transported back to the Scuttling Void - behind you will be a Griffon Effigy aflame. Walking behind it (to the West) the fire of Mara will appear. Talk to her. Pathos For Perdition will now conclude and you will be transported back to the Great Griffon Palace; head out the main door. The entire city is burning - you will have to fight your way past: Orcs, Wayrestian Insurgents, Ustase, Witchmen, Proselytized Peasants and Beggars. Head out to the Western Gate (the Eastern is impassible). To remove the tendrils holding the doors, you will have to defeat a Supernal Custodian. You may note that upon calling up your map, all map-markers are vacant - and you cannot quick travel to anywhere. Head out the Western Gate towards The Divide.

At this point, you will have the option to skip the epilogue cutscene. Don't - because its pretty damn good.

Exiting Evermore, a young girl named Dawn who escaped Arnima - just to find Evermore sacked - will beg you to help her. This starts the final quest: Iris.

Journal

Pathos For Perdition
ID Journal Entry
Back in reality, I am greeted not by that pungent odor of death, but of the fresh air of Nirn. I want to savor this moment as I'm not sure what foul trick is being played - I hear voices from outside, I should see from which lips they usher.
I looked around and spoke to who I assumed was Drugo, I feel comfortable enough to deduce that I'm back in the real world. The Imperials were talking about uprooting to make way for Skyrim, leaving The Reach directly in the hands of the Bretons. Drugo also spoke of Damian speaking in Arnima - this must be a speech with some substance for him to mention it. I should make my way for the town.......... Arnima, why did I write Arnima?
The priest seems to outdo himself with every dreadful revelation - ramping up the stakes until it has now endangered the entire Kingdom. Damian; the prince, is suspect of being possessed by some demon - at least this is what I could gather from the ramblings of the Priest. I resist the urge to sate my curiosity further, yet I know that any calamity involving the prince would have me succumb to guilt.
The same omen I interacted with in that ill-begotten realm had appeared outside the Quarry, and from the lack of concern by any who should have caught sight of him - I deduced that I must be the only one who can. This illusory figure tasked me with killing the Prince of all people, and plunging the kingdom into perdition. Am I so foolish to follow the order of demons?
I acceded to the request from Damian - to slay that Orc speaker who may inspire other Orcs and Bretons alike to forgo their ancient hatred for each other, to instead bastardize this land with their mixing. I am a loyal subject of the king, I will adhere to any and every order placed upon me, no questions asked.
The King himself was in conspiracy to keep this cabal of deviants and their victims a secret to all his subordinates. The very roots of this kingdom seemed to have been poisoned - and I should have seen it from the start. I shirked to acknowledge all the warning signs and had just pushed on to fulfill my own needs. I pay the price for such solipsism - now the peasants revolt and an unknown kingdom lays siege to our walls.

Bugs

  1. After gaining the Palace Basement Key from the Orc Nanny, it still won't open the door to the main court chamber.
    1. Solution: hit the tilde key (~) and select the door in question with your mouse. Then type "unlock" (without quotations) - unlock the door as normal.
