Altano is a Bosmer Vigilant of Stendarr who initially recruits you. He used to study under Jacob until he became an Elite member of the Vigilants.
Interactions[]
You can first encounter Altano in Windpeak Inn, Dawnstar. He will approach the player and offer a position as a Vigilant of Stendarr. This interaction automatically creates a quest in your journal.
If you accept he will lead to to Stuhn Ravine, which is an added location and the main base for the Vigilants of Stendarr. Once you're inside, he'll introduce you to the senior member, Thorondir.
Dialogue[]
Vigilant of Stendarr | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
"I like that look in your eyes... Would you like to join the Vigilants of Stendarr? You look like you could hold your own." Yes, I'd like to join you. "I'm glad to hear this. We'll be counting on you from now on. May Stendarr bless you. Follow me. I will guide you to the Temple of Stendarr." No, I'm not interested. "I see. I'll be here if you change your mind." Upon entering Stuhn Ravine for the first time: "This is the temple of Stendarr. One of our bases in Skyrim. You should greet Thorondir. He's the Keeper in this Temple." Tell me about this Temple. I will give you a short overview of it's facilities. The place we're standing in right now is the chapel of the temple. Here we speak our prayers to Stendarr. Downstairs is the library where books collected by our predecessors are kept. You should visit it when you have the time. To the right of the entrance is an alchemy laboratory. Upstairs is the restroom. On the second floor on the left is a dining room. Admittedly, the food there is not splendid, but it will satisfy your hunger. But let's finish the explanation here. You must be tired. Get some rest. |

Is there anything I can do to help? A priest of Arkay in Whiterun has requested our assistance. It seems they have some problems with a vampire. I want you to accompany me. Hurry up and prepare for the journey, that vampire won't wait for us. What can you tell me about the incident? All of the victims were completely drained of blood. This is the work of a vampire, a newly turned one at that. I'll take a more thorough look at the notes. In the meantime, you should search for anyone suspicious in the city. What can you tell me about the victims? Hmm, there is no connection of magical nature between them... All I can say is that they were all male. You said a newly turned vampire... Why do you think so? Bodies of victims are found every day. Only newly turned vampires act so impulsively. Don't we need the Jarl's permission for this? Our activities are tolerated here in Skyrim, and with shortages of guards because of the civil war our efforts are welcome for now. I defeated the vampire. She was disguised as a prostitute. Ah, so that's why you look so refreshed. Honestly, I expected something like this from you. Anyway, a prostitute... Well, our work here is done. I think I will look for some kind of refreshment as well. |
He Who Cannot Be Touched | ||||

Did anything happen? A few hours ago a house outside city walls was destroyed by a Daedra. Reports say people heard it laughing and that it's still in there. A woman who may have summoned it has also been seen there. Our mission is to defeat that Daedra and seize its summoner. Let's go. I don't see its summoner... Damn it, she already escaped! But if she was able to summon Vernaccus, her Conjuration skill must be immense. I will return to the in and collect all I can about this summoner. Return to me when you're ready. |
Lazy Afternoon | ||||

Did you find out anything about the summoner? There was an incident with a Daedra in the inn in Windhelm. It might be related to our investigation. We should check it out. Altano: Hey, get up! Kathutet: Jus' five more minutes... Go'way... Altano: What the...? Well, he doesn't seem very dangerous. I'll leave this one to you and continue my search for that summoner. I sent that Daedra in the inn back to Oblivion. I've never seen such a poor excuse for a Daedra... Well, the summoner is what's important. Judging by the traces of her Magicka, she must be somewhere nearby. I will continue the search for her in Windhelm. I'll be in the inn if you need me. |
The Eye of Madness | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
You look troubled. What's wrong? I overheard a strange rumor from the guards. Apparently there's a sinister man in Kynesgrove. Anyone who looks him in the eyes flies into a frenzy, they say. As Vigilants of Stendarr, we can't overlook something like that. Go to Kynesgrove and check out this rumor. The rumor was true, but Balor has no evil intentions.' That man, Balor, must be sent to Stendarr. What do you think will happen if that man loses control of his eye? Many people will suffer. Don't you understand? Fine. I will kill him in the name of Stendarr. Good. Remember, the mercy of Stendarr is greater than blind compassion. I can't do that... You must. Otherwise, you cannot be a Vigilant of Stendarr anymore. I killed Balor... Don't let it get to you. At times like this, a drink will make you feel better. |
Dine and Dash | ||||

Did you find any clues about the summoner? I got some news from Stendarr's Beacon. Apparently she's been in Riften. Let's go to the Beacon and listen to the details. After banishing Amkaos: Can you lend me some money? Oh, fine, if there's no other way... (800) coins added |
Thus Spoke Khajiit | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
"In the Ratway? Hm, I have friends in the Ragged Flagon. I'll try to get some information from them. I'll go on ahead. Meet me there as soon as you're ready." Did you find out anything about the Daedra in the Ratway? "I heard a Khajiit called Jo'vanni summoned it. Find that Khajiit while I search for the Daedra." [After killing Jo'vanni and Empusa] I took care of the Khajiit. His Daedra as well. "Indeed? I'm glad to have such an excellent partner. Let's return to Stendarr's Beacon. Perhaps the summoner has been caught already." |
Old Guilts | ||||

"Help Master Jacob. I'll scout ahead." [After killing Bal] "It's over. It's all over... Bring me the mace Bal was using, we'll need it. I'll return to the Temple of Stendarr and ask the Keeper for advice about this mace. Before I leave, I have a small task for you. I heard there's a witch living with her child in the shack south of Ivarstead. Witches are a serious threat in Skyrim. Give them the mercy of Stendarr." We should hold a funeral for Jacob. "I will do it. You just take care of the witches in the meantime. I'll see you at the Temple of Stendarr." |
No Mercy | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
"Witches are a serious threat in Skyrim. Purge them out." There are no witches in Ivarstead. "Is that so? So you return without finishing your task? You have let yourself be deceived. I was clear about this! Go back and finish it! You will only know whether they are witches or not when they're dead! Go, now, and kill them!" Fine, I understand... "I... I'm sorry I yelled at you like that... But you must understand. If there is even the slightest possibility of witches being there, they must be eliminated." Altano, you can't be serious... "Not serious? You're the one who's not being serious! You're out of your mind! Go! Kill the witches! This is your duty!" This is wrong... "Wrong? Why now? Haven't you killed in cold blood before? It's no different now! Just do as I say and kill them in the name of Stendarr!" I won't do this this, Altano. "I see... You're adamant about this. Regrettable. Very regrettable. I don't like such brutality, but it seems I need to be clearer..." "You will kill these witches. And you will do so of your own... free... will." |
The Landing | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
"Well, well well. Look who finally decided to show up. And it seems even Stendarr has forsaken you." Altano... Why? "There's no reason to explain anything to you. You will die now. Genghis, send this soul to Molag Bal. I must return to the altar and continue with the ritual." |
Conversations[]
Bloodsucker | ||||

Alcano: We heard about the vampire. Are there any victims? If so, I'd like a list of them. Andurs: Here. We found the fifth victim yesterday. Please, can you help us? The guards are terrified and we can't rely on them. Altano: Don't worry. We, the Vigilants of Stendarr, will deal with this vampire. Andurs: Thank you so much. Blessings of the Eight Divines upon you. Altano: We are the Vigilants of Stendarr. We've received report of a Daedra in your inn. Elda Early-Dawn: Yes, that Daedra appeared here a few days ago and it refuses to leave. Can you do something about it? Altano: Leave it to us, we'll take care of that matter immediately. But how did that Daedra appear? Was it summoned? Elda: Yes, a woman quarreled with a drunk patron and she summoned it... That drunk got torn apart bu that Daedra. I don't even want to think about it anymore... Altano: Do you know where that woman is now? Elda: No, I don't I haven't seen her since she summoned that Daedra. Altano: Understood. We appreciate your cooperation. [To player] Altano: "Come on, novice. We have to get rid of that Daedra." |

Upon arriving at Stendarr's Beacon: Altano: Long time no see, Master Jacob. I'm glad to see you in good health. Jacob: Ha ha, don't stand on ceremony, Altano. We're both Vigilants here. Altano: True. Well, I heard you've found the summoner. Jacob: Vigilants found her in The Bee and Barb in Riften. They tried to seize her, but... But she summoned a powerful Daedra and they couldn't do much more then. And even worse, she summoned it in the middle of the inn and now it won't leave. We're fully occupied with chasing her, so I'm leaving the matter with the Daedra to you. Do you think you're up to it? Altano: Don't worry about it. That Daedra will regret being summoned. Jacob: Ha ha ha! That's reassuring. But still, be careful. By the way, about your partner... [to player] Altano mentioned your eyes in his letter, and it's true. As if Stendarr himself gazed at me... In any case, be careful with that Daedra. It's one of the more curious ones, so don't underestimate it. Altano: Well, let's go. In the Bee and Barb: Amkaos: Hey, waiter! Get me more food, or I'll feast on your flesh! Altano: Where is your summoner? Tell us and we'll grant you a swift death. Amkaos: Death? A mortal, killing an immortal Daedra? You must be joking. And you want to know where my summoner is? Well, you can start looking... In my stomach! |
Notes[]
Unlike almost all other Vigilants, Altano does not register to a 'Detect Life' spell. He doesn't register to 'Detect Death', either, implying that he's not alive, dead or undead. Unfortunately, there's no-one in the mod you can discuss this finding with.
